Evening After The Rain

Last night I was feeling a pleasant touch of melancholy.  I was missing Kip, who was again at work. The rain, which had been tumbling down all week left me behind, too.  A quivering blue hung in the air, surrounded by the grey post-rain gloaming.  Luckily I went outside just in time.

 Sometimes I find myself seeing something so beautiful it's painful, a physical ache, and I want to stare at it all day, but don't know if I could take it.  Is that strange?  Well, last evening was something to revel in.  My small garden looked very pleased, and it lifted my spirits as well.

Just out the front door.

The first Grandiflora Sunray Coreopsis to bloom.

The Irish Moss is wearing her fine little flowers now.

This will be the first bloom from my Dahlia tubers!  "Strawberry Ice".  I can't wait.

Some Roma Tomatoes from Kip's Salsa Garden, all dressed up, hats and all.

 Our little digital just doesn't grasp colour and detail as well as I would like...but it does a pretty good job.

One of my ornamental morning glories falling into my trap!  (I wanted them to climb my little plant stands.  Should be gorgeous!)

The backdrop to my pots, so beautifully provided by my benevolent landlords.

Some Daffs I brought down from the mountains.  (I was supposed to clip them, so I brought them home instead of throwing them away.)

Shame you can't see it in person.

A disorganized shot of part of the garden.  (A new deck is being built above the porch by the Landlords.  So, they have been moving my pots hither and thither while putting up various posts, etc.  My garden is in a grand state of disarray.)

The end of my street!  Look at those clouds.  The valley I live in does have some remarkable clouds.

The street I live on, and the neighbor who keeps trying to recruit me for church choir :)

The evening ended by helping my little sister fulfill a Drivers Ed assignment.  (Sit by an intersection for 30 minutes and write down everything you see that is illegal.)  I was working on a garden space the whole time in a notebook, imagining a Red, Orange, & Blue colour scheme.  Sigh.  It was really nice in my mind.

Thanks for joining me!

July Flowers, Frozen World

It is dreadfully grey today, horribly grey, and though I've had some other posts in mind I have begun to crave flowers and colour.    I have also been remembering the flowers from my wedding.  I lived in Rio de Janeiro for eighteen months, and loved it!  The older part of the city (in which I lived) was built with very European architecture, yet the colouring is that of a tropical country; reds, oranges, pinks, greens!   The combination of the two is fantastic.  That is what I wanted to do for my wedding.  I wanted elegant neutrals and splashes of gorgeous colour.   So, I thought I would let you take a look at some of Red Clover's flowers and throw in a few extra pictures for fun.  Hope you enjoy!

My mom put together a small bouquet for my bridals because we had forgotten that we needed one.  It wasn't all the flowers I had chosen, but the right coloring and I loved it.

The very first picture of Mr. and Mrs. Red Clover

The big picture...

Celebration of our two families.

There's the first shot of my first bouquet.  I had chosen large pink and orange Lilies, two colours of Astermaria (which is a favorite flower!), fantastic soft pink and yellow snap dragons, small red roses...and let's see if I can remember what else.  Something green called "Irish Bells" or something like that.

I wanted ferns for the greenery in the bouquet.  My Aunt Marjorie is a decorator, and does flowers for deserving nieces...assuming we're deserving.

Behind the Mt. Timpanogos temple where we were married.

We decorated with big bouquets and palm trees, as well as lying a bouquet of flowers over a shallow clay bowl on each table.  It looked really nice.

Best Friend, Cousin, Sister, Sister, Me, Four More Sisters.   Aren't they beautiful?

The men looked sharp in their tuxes.  This is my  youngest brother, who loves posing for a camera.  I thought their boutonnieres (sp?) looked great against the black.

The cake imitated my dress; a soft ivory with slightly darker flower patterns all over.  Then it had a cascade of flowers down the side.

One of the Flower Girls, my niece

A view of where we held the evening reception.  It was up a canyon in the mountains and just beautiful.

My gorgeous mother and dashing father.  (She bore eleven children! They are both amazing and in excellent shape!  "From running after so many kids?"  you ask.)

The tables where refreshments were served.  I wanted whimsical and elegance.  I think both were captured.

A close up of the boutonnieres.  I loved the thick grass my Aunt used.

One of the corsages for the girls!  I have no idea what that drooping flower was, but it added such a fun look and texture.

We have now been married now for a year and a half, and I am so happy!  I hope you had fun looking at the flowers from my wedding!

Garden Tour: #2 - 2009

This house had quite a simple feel, with several layers of lawns, fruit trees, and roses.  Here are the pictures I snapped of elements I liked.  I realized that I didn't take on of the whole yard...whoops!

Enjoyed this walk way.

They had an entire shade garden underneath this tree, which was surrounded by three rooms of the house.  It was a nice setting.

This was a very tall wall...the ivy was pretty cool.

All the steps from level to level were like so; a rectangle and a triangle.  I liked the combination.
This was a view towards the daughter's home at the back of the property. (Constructed from an old barn!)

The raspberries.
Lots of roses adorned the fence in the very back.  Here was a rather nice bloom.

#3 coming up!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rose ~ You did miss out, and we missed you.  That's what happens when you live on the other side of the country.  Maybe you should come visit sometime!
EB ~  I prefer less "stuff" as well, but don't mind a few fun ideas.   I'm much more of a plant/flower girl with a few interesting items.
Karagal ~  Yes, the red was delicious.  It's a great colour in the garden.  (There is a reason why that's the British spelling, you know...ha ha)
Sir. Bob ~  I'm planning on showing off all the Dahlias.  I'm afraid there will be no where to escape!  I can't wait to post my "Black Dahlia" later on...maybe tonight!
Jennifer ~  Yes, I am all for lots of time with my husband.  There's nothing better.  Well, lots of time with my husband in the garden might be...ha ha.
