Seedlings...

Two weeks ago today I stopped by Kip's grandmother's house.  She is a gardener, flower lover, and has this little light set up in her basement to grow seeds.  It was a great visit, and I learned a lot, went to the dollar store, bought some tupperware, and decided to try and start some of the seed packets I've been gathering.

So far it's been great!  This is my set up.

Now, according to "Grandmother instructions" I got some tupperware, cut out a paper towel to fit the bottom, and got it damp with water mixed with half the fertilizer recommended (I used miracle grow)  Then I set it in the sill of my east window.  I placed the first seedlings about 12 days ago.   All have started to sprout (except the purple coneflowers)...

I bought these seeds last week and put them in Friday.

They burst out and will be ready to be transplanted to those little planting containers soon.

Bedfellows; ornamental morning glories and forget me nots.  The forget me nots are going slowly, and the morning glories came with almost no invitation.  I need to plant those today.  (They were spaced out better, more organized, but Kip tipped them over.  Smiles.)

Kip's grandmother remembered that I loved of Dahlias.  So, after we left she put a few seeds in to grow, they sprouted, were transfered,  and she sent them home with me when I stopped by to visit yesterday.  Here they are!   Don't they look nice?

Well, I am going to start some more seeds today, move some into my trays I purchased, and keep it going.  I've decided that sprouting seeds is the salvation I needed to see me past all the frosts.

It also snowed today, and no I am not kidding.

The paper towel bed for the seedlings looks almost like cake frosting. At first I thought it was, and I thought, "Hey, maybe plants like cake as much as I do." Isn't that a nice thought?
